Attorneys At Law

I was a full time employee at a popular restaurant in San Francisco. By all accounts I was a good worker and well-liked by both management and my peers. Then I became pregnant.

When I informed the owner of the restaurant of my pregnancy, he cut my hours the following week. While the timing seemed suspicious to me, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. But my hours were cut once again the week after that. By the third week, I was completely taken off the schedule.

There just didn’t seem to be any justifiable reason for my being cut from the schedule. I kept calling the owner and the management to find out what was going on and why this was happening. Instead, I got the runaround. Management eventually informed me that I should come in the following week to pick up my check - my last check, and talk to the owner then.

The owner was just as evasive about his reasons for firing me as management was. I got one ridiculous reason after another. When I asked him why I was never spoken with or warned immediately after any of my sudden supposed failures on the job, he couldn’t come up with an explanation and basically told me he didn’t need to explain any of his decisions to me. He flatly refused to give me anything in writing.

The whole thing didn’t feel right at all to me, and talking my situation over with a friend led us to the conclusion that I might have been fired illegally. A good friend of mine recommended that I speak with Bayer & Borlase. I contacted them in addition to several other employment law firms in San Francisco.

While the other employment law firms gave me the brush-off and told me there wasn’t much they could do on my behalf, Alan and Heather were open to hearing about my situation. Unlike the other firms, they took the time needed to establish whether or not I had a case. So right away I knew they were different, and it was obvious that they cared about me. One of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made was to hire Bayer & Borlase to represent me against my former employer.

What makes Bayer & Borlase such a formidable ally is the way they work together as a team. They’re very different people, who play incredibly well off of one another’s strengths and weaknesses. I felt like I was getting two great attorneys for the price of one. I’d never been in a situation anything like this before, and it was scary. I had no idea what was happening, and I had a lot of questions. On top of that, my baby was born while this was all unfolding. Simply put, it was a lot for me as a mom with a newborn to handle. Alan and Heather put my mind at ease every step of the way, taking the time to answer all my questions, pick me up when I was down, and ensure that I knew what our strategy was to get the compensation I deserved.

Bayer & Borlase presented such a strong argument at the beginning of my mediation that it didn’t take long at all before the other side caved and agreed to our demands. Even though Alan and Heather were younger than the other side’s attorneys, they came in so confident and refused to be intimidated. It was so obvious that they were fighting for me and that they would remain persistent in getting what I wanted. And that’s exactly what happened.

I can’t thank Alan and Heather enough for working so hard represent my rights, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone else who might find themselves in the situation I was in.
